As Audrey starts to get older holidays like Valentines Day become more fun because there are more things we can do with her. Not so much about a mushy holiday for Chris and I (and I am not just saying that because he deployed this year) Although, of course I wish he was home yesterday for Valentines Day but February 14th isn't that big of a deal for us. Normally a card, maybe flowers or a nice dinner at home but nothing extravagant. We aren't exactly the fancy smancy dinner kind of people! Holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, our anniversary are much harder to spend alone. So Valentines Day I think I can handle. But that doesn't mean that Chris did not find some way to make my day even from Afghanistan. We had sent Chris tons of Valentines Day crafts, candy, and cards in the last care package but it was just another day in Afghanistan for him as it was just another here on the home front. I had work and Audrey had school where they had their Valentines Day party. Little did I know Chris had gotten in touch with girls that I work with to have flowers delivered to my work! He had made sure I would be at work on Valentines Day and had them sent to surprise me. It seemed as if everyone knew except for me that I was getting flowers but that was okay :) It made my rather crappy start to my day so much better! Plus, it was very unexpected!
After school and work that day I planned on a nice little dinner for Audrey and I and some Valentines Day fun! We had spaghetti and meatballs! Then we spent most of the evening playing, talking about Dad, looking at pictures and working on crafts.
First, was a big Valentines Day poster for Dad!
Audrey loves when I draw her body outline in chalk outside so we did it on a big sheet of paper. She then colored it for Dad!
It is now hanging on the front door :)
"I will take a picture but I am not going to smile."
She is not the most photogenic kid!
We also made Valentines Day jewerly! What little girl doesn't love fake jewerly!
A few other coloring pages and an episode of Blue's Clues Valentines special and by then we were both starting to get tired. An early night for us on Valentines Day. Only thing missing was Daddy but we made it through okay with a little surprise of flowers and gifts in the mail for Audrey! Ready to finish up February and move on to March!!
